You will take three foundation courses in online format over the July/August period. The selection of courses, done by the selection committee, will depend on your choice of specialisation and background.

The course is designed to provide students with an overview of the foundations of financial accounting with a practical focus on financial statement analysis and the valuation of public organisations. Upon completion of the course, you will have the necessary competencies to evaluate a company’s financial performance using the relevant financial statement analytical methods and ratios, to perform basic valuation of public companies and, link a company’s financial performance with its market valuation.

This course will provide you with a solid grounding in the principles and practice of finance. You will develop an understanding of the tools necessary to make good financial decisions. This module aims to provide knowledge and understanding of key management issues in corporate finance and in the market for financial assets. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to apply major valuation techniques and know-how to maximize the value of a portfolio.

This course’s primary objective is to help you answer several important strategic questions for companies or organizations, such as: What business shall we be in? How to compete for resources and create value? How to organize for and assess performance?... The course focuses on the complex and multidimensional nature of strategic decision-making.

 

The course is primarily designed to give you a deeper understanding of Financial reporting and Selected advanced accounting issues. You will gain a practical understanding of the mechanics of financial reporting as prescribed by International Financial Reporting Standards (IAS/IFRS) and the knowledge of a wide range of practical tools to analyze financial statements with the perspective of a business valuation while addressing selected advanced accounting issues that may influence the decision-making process (especially for investors and creditors). Upon completion of the course, you will be able to evaluate corporate financial performance through the use of relevant financial statement analysis tools and methods, including ratio analysis, with the perspective of understanding the dynamics/trends that characterize certain industries, understand and incorporate the impact of complex accounting items such as goodwill (or bad will), R&D, deferred tax items, off-balance sheet items and the like, into the review of corporate financial performance.

This seminar aims to develop the cognitive and behavioural abilities to manage and lead effectively across cultures particularly for students pursuing careers in finance. After attending this seminar, you will be able to understand the role of managers and their leadership challenges, you will gain practical experience with diversity by working in international teams effectively and productively and question stereotypes through heightened cultural awareness and the critical analysis of diverse leadership styles.

This course will help gain proficiency regarding the key strategic, financial, and legal issues of M&A deals. After having taken this course, you will have a good understanding of Company Valuation concepts, M&A deal structuring drivers, M&A transaction legal concepts, Purchase Price Allocation, and consolidation of an M&A transaction. You will be able to perform Company Valuation in an M&A environment, drive and customize an M&A process to a specific situation.

The main purpose of this course is to understand how complex accounting rules can influence, change, even manipulate the value created/perceived of a company. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to understand some of the most famous complex accounting items, analyse business situations from the angle of those accounting items, evaluate fraudulent/erroneous reporting and perform constructive and challenging analysis on complex financial statements like analysts would do.

Accounting is a cornerstone of a firm’s operations. Next to being a legal and tax requirement, it is foremost an important information tool allowing outside investors and other relevant stakeholders such as investment analysts, suppliers, clients, employees, and board members to evaluate the financial position of a company in terms of its liquidity, solvency, and profitability. Understanding the underlying principles of how financial statements are prepared under various accounting standards is therefore important to be able to critically analyze the economic performance of firms. The first objective of this course is to provide a reminder of the basic accounting treatments of key business transactions and of financial statements in general. The second objective is to extend this view of financial accounting by considering the international dimensions of financial reporting and exploring different accounting standards, e.g. IFRS and US GAAP. The purpose is to engage in the examination of the similarities and differences between these GAAPs and to discuss their consequences.

In the past few years, a series of corporate scandals shook the foundations of the audit profession (e.g., Arthur Andersen, Enron, WorldCom etc.). The common determinants behind such scandals were the lack of controls and weak control functions. The main objective of this module is to provide you with the general framework and procedure of auditing. You will learn the theoretical foundation on which auditing expertise and competencies are based, and apply it to case studies. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to describe and implement the various steps of audit planning as well as the preparatory actions to achieve a better knowledge of the professional involvement and clients' needs, assess the sincerity and methods of internal controls and audit testing in order to shape a professional autonomous opinion (audit testing) and implement the audit risk model under different cases.

This course addresses the ethical challenges in finance, which include financial markets, financial services, and financial management. The main objective is to make students aware of the relevance of ethical norms for professionals in finance. Many of the ethical norms in finance are embodied in law and government regulation and are enforced by the courts and regulatory bodies. Ethics plays a vital role, however by guiding the formation of law and regulation and, second, by guiding conduct in areas not governed or controlled by law and regulation.

You will learn the basic concepts of academic research and will be able to apply these concepts in the research and composition necessary for their Applied Master Projects (AMPs).

A sustainable business can create social value while at the same time generate profits to investors. Using academic evidence and real-life examples, students will learn how to apply, analyse, and evaluate the use of sustainability practices by both companies and financial professionals. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to assess the role of executive pay, stewardship and shareholder activism, and investment strategies in generating social value without sacrificing profits and formulate how companies can embed sustainability in their business models.

Our MSc students have the opportunity to apply for a study tour in London. The objective is to immerse them into a real professional and cultural environment in order to get acquainted with specific industry practices.

This certificate programme is open to students enrolled into the research thesis where they will be supervised in a challenging research undertake. The aim of this course is to support students in conducting rigorous and original empirical research in finance. You will gain the ability to identify research questions that are relevant for the business and public policy, demonstrate a deep understanding of the frontiers of knowledge in a very narrow area, design and implement a sound research project and write a research report and make a presentation of the results that follow the standards of research in the field.

You will gain practical and theoretical project management fundamentals. You will learn to master project management tools such as Project Charter, Project plan, Stakeholder analysis, Schedule… The certificate is based on “best practices” collected from worldwide professionals and documented by Project Management Institute (PMI®) through the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®), a worldwide Project Management Standard. This certification is recognised by the French government.

The International Students Office (ISO) assists students to settle in smoothly in France by organising orientation events and multicultural seminars to welcome international students to EDHEC Campuses in Lille and Nice. The team guides students with administrative procedures before their arrival and during their stay and answers all questions about French systems (medical and home insurances, banks, resident permits, etc.).

  • Yes, you can make scanned colour copies of the documents required.

Should the application file and the two recommendation letters be typed or written freehand?

Will the International Admissions’ team contact the referees to send the letters of recommendation?

  • No, referees should email their letters of recommendation directly to [email protected] using their professional email. Emails from personal accounts such as yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc. will not be accepted.

Will my referees receive an automatic confirmation when they send the letters by email?

  • No, no automatic email will be sent to your referees. Please inform them that they should expect to receive an email confirmation later from the Admissions’ team.
  • Please note that you will be copied to this email as well to acknowledge the good reception of the letters of recommendation.

Will I have an interview with the Programme Manager?

  • There is no direct interview with the Programme Manager for students applying for our MIM or MSc programmes unless the Programme Director thinks it is necessary.

How is the Online interview conducted?

  • Once your online application is complete, the International Admissions Team will send you a link to take your online interview in English. It is a series of 6 questions on your motivation, your interest in the programme, your previous experiences (professional, group work…). There is no right or wrong answer. You will have a practice session before you start the interview. Once the interview is done, it will be sent along with your application file to the Selection Committee.

Can I apply for more than one programme?

  • It is possible to apply for two programmes.  A separate motivation letter is required for each programme.

Can I apply for a waiver?

  • Waivers apply for native-English speakers and for those who have studied in English.

► English native speakers or those holding a degree taught in English (minimum 3 years) are eligible for an English Test waiver.

Is there any help for students with regard to campus housing? 

  • Once officially enrolled, you will receive help to find suitable accommodation, either in EDHEC residences or in privately owned apartments. EDHEC's International Students Office (ISO) is familiar with the visa formalities of most countries and will provide you with the necessary paperwork for completion. Should you have any concerns about your visa application, you can contact the ISO, provided you have already checked the relevant pages in the Welcome Guide and contacted your local Embassy. One requirement for most visa applications is proof of accommodation in France. Again, the ISO is on hand to provide you with a list of apartments, halls of residence and other types of housing, depending on your criteria. You can even "visit" them virtually on our new housing website. The team will do everything it can to make arrangements with the property owner and secure your booking. It can also pick you up from the airport on the day of your arrival (where possible) and take you directly to your new home.

Can I add an unofficial GMAT score report to my application file?

  • You will get an unofficial score report immediately after taking your exam. You can send it to the recruitment office as an extra supporting document whilst applying. This document will provisionally be accepted in your application file and the official report will be asked to confirm your seat.

 


When the tuition fees must be paid?

  • Once the Selection Committee has accepted your application, you will receive an acceptance email including your tuition fee payment schedule. In order to secure your place you have to pay the 1st instalment within 3 weeks.

How does financial aid apply to the tuition fees?

  • Financial aid applies to the second and third instalment for the MSc programme and to the second, third and fourth instalment for the MIM programme.

 

What is the EDHEC Career Centre?

  • The Student Career Centre is dedicated to helping students find a job or an internship.
  • The Centre receives every year over 14 000 job and internship offers.

Complementary courses in French are offered to all international students enrolled in our MSc programmes. Our French classes cover all learning levels, from complete beginner to advanced study. The goal is to support your acculturation to French culture and give you the linguistic foundation—grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and listening—to express yourself in the French language.
