You will take three of these 5 foundation courses in an online format in the July/August period. According to your background, the Selection Committee may require specific classes or you may choose three courses from this list.

The objective of this course is to provide you with a solid grounding in the principles and practice of finance and develop the understanding of the tools necessary to make good financial decisions. This module aims to provide knowledge and understanding of key management issues in corporate finance and in the market for financial assets.

This course is run as a combination of two modules: Basics in Statistics and Introduction to Coding with R through EDHEC’s Online Unit. We strongly recommend completing the modules in parallel, one week at a time.

This Basics in Statistics module presents the basic principles of statistical data analysis (description, estimation, testing), as well as the most common statistical methods such as linear regression.

The Introduction to Coding with R module

  • Introduces R, a standard and powerful programming language well suited for data analysis: its objects and its syntax
  • Presents Anaconda and RStudio, two user-friendly working environments for R
  • Presents selected built-in functions that perform common tasks.

The course is designed to provide you with an overview of the foundations of financial accounting with a practical focus on Financial statement analysis and the valuation of public organizations. These foundations are deemed necessary in order for students to successfully pursue the course of their studies at the Master's level.

The purpose of this course is to provide you with fundamental knowledge in Marketing, and to demonstrate the key role marketing takes within any organisation. You will gain a better understanding of what marketing is and what its role in the firm is, of the process of value creation from the perspective of customers, producers, and society at large. You will be know how to mix various marketing tools and techniques in a coherent manner.

This course’s primary objective is to help you answer several important strategic questions for companies or organizations, such as: What business shall we be in? How to compete for resources and create value? How to organize for and assess performance?... The course focuses on the complex and multidimensional nature of strategic decision-making.

The commercial exploitation of advanced data analytics and big data raises several concerns from an ethical viewpoint, ranging from privacy, discrimination, manipulative nudging all the way to risks of deepening social inequalities. At the same time, big data holds the promise of improving our knowledge about human behavior and society, which could, if well used, ease the mentioned problems. The course will enable to analyse the negative and positive potential of big data from a normative standpoint and make more informed decision-making. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to understand the main ethical issues regarding the commercial exploitation of big data, for instance, dealing with the risks of privacy erosion, discrimination, social inequalities, or manipulative nudging and the complexity of dealing with ethical issues in the “big data supply chain”. You will use argumentation to make ethical decisions and developing ideas for mitigating or preventing negative effects of big data.

The process of retrieving useful information from the large dataset is called data mining. You will learn about the different data mining methods and show their use for management purposes. We will perform analysis using Python software. Focus is on understanding, intuition, limitations, and practical use of the methods. Upon completion of the course, you will understand data mining methods, their use, and their limitations, know about different data types, and methods to extract information from it, make predictions using data mining algorithms, evaluate them, and show their business value, explore and discover associations in large data sets and non-standard data structures, as texts and networks.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to create Data Visualizations that help to answer business questions and take decisions. You will be autonomous with Tableau Software, to create advanced, interactive dashboards. Upon completion, you will be able to enhance and customize visualizations as needed for a specific business context, visualize and interpret spatial data and verbally communicate persuasive, data-driven business insights supported by Tableau visualizations.

You will learn the machine learning basic models, with a focus on supervised learning. You will gain an overall knowledge of classical machine learning algorithms, a high level knowledge of optimization and limitations of such models. You will be able to choose the relevant models for a given real life problem, develop and use python codes for machine learning.

Over the last two decades political, social, and technological developments have disrupted the strategic business landscape in almost every country around the world. There is an ongoing paradigm shift towards a more service-dominant, digital and global economy. As a result, future managers are confronted with an increased need to justify their trade-offs in the managerial decision-making process. Business research can be defined as the systematic inquiry which provides information for managerial decision-making. As a future manager you will need to understand how effective business research can provide high-quality information to improve managerial decision-making. The business research process is a sequential process based on scientific method and allows future managers to understand, evaluate as well as conduct research to improve managerial decision-making. Upon completion of the course, you will understand the role and nature of the business research process, the principles of the scientific methods underlying business research process. You will know how to apply the principles of business research to evaluate and design business research projects and the principles of business research to their Master thesis.

Statistical models are powerful tools for data analysis. The most well-known statistical model is the linear regression model, where a variable of interest is explained and predicted by a collection of other variables. This course will focus on understanding the methods, and applying them to data using software. Upon completion of the course, you will learn to use the linear regression model in practice using the R software and solve real problems by building and selecting a statistical model.

This course focuses on principles, concepts and systems used in digital marketing, SEM (SEO+SEA), Data Analysis and Growth Hacking. You will gain the skills and competences for operational decision in the digital sector. A focus will be done on tools using by start-ups, companies in the digital tech industry. You will be able to create dashboards from online data and build scrapping programs and analyze website traffic.
