You will take three foundation courses in an online format over the July/August period. The selection of courses, done by the selection committee, will depend on your choice of specialisation and background.

This course provides an introduction to the underlying science, with the aim of giving you a thorough understanding of that scientific basis. However, instead of merely explaining the science, we help you build on that foundation in a practical manner, with an emphasis on the hands-on implementation of those ideas in the Python programming language. As the course covers the theory and math in lecture videos, you will also implement the concepts in Python, and you'll be able to code along with us so that you have a deep and practical understanding of how those methods work. By the time you are done, not only will you have a foundational understanding of modern computational methods in investment management, you will have practical mastery in the implementation of those methods.

The course is designed to provide an overview of the foundations of financial accounting with a practical focus on Financial statement analysis and the valuation of public organizations. Upon completion, you will understand the mechanisms that underlie the preparation of financial statements, evaluate a company’s financial performance using the relevant financial statement analytical methods and ratios. More specifically, you will perform basic valuation of public companies and link a company’s financial performance with its market valuation

This course’s primary objective is to help you answer several important strategic questions for companies or organisations, such as: What business will we be in? How to compete for resources and create value? How to organise for and assess performance? The course focuses on the complex and multidimensional nature of strategic decision-making.

The objective of this course is to provide a solid grounding in the principles and practice of finance and develop the understanding of the tools necessary to make good financial decisions. This module aims to provide knowledge and understanding of key management issues in corporate finance and in the market for financial assets.

The course discusses the foundations of financial decision-making within a corporation, including internal financing and external borrowing policies, and how these interact with investment. The course uses market pricing as the unifying framework to evaluate decisions of capital budgeting, leverage, and extensions to real options analysis, and liquidity management. Upon completion, you will be able to analyze and understand how companies make capital structure and dividend policy decisions; evaluate capital investments using a selection of appraisal techniques. More specifically, you will solve financing problems using theory and financial and other numerical tools.

This seminar aims to develop the cognitive and behavioral abilities to manage and lead effectively across cultures particularly for students pursuing careers in finance. Students will gain practical experience by working in international teams and question stereotypes through heightened cultural awareness and the critical analysis of diverse leadership styles.

The course is designed to provide students with the foundations of financial accounting with a practical focus on the inter-relation between the financial statements and the impact of the choice of accounting methods on the understanding of a reporting entity’s financial performance and financial position. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to measure the company's past and present financial performance with the relevant analytical framework by linking the set of information provided by the three main financial statements, deploy the relevant ratio analysis toolbox, and identify the key accounting issues within a specific industry. More specifically, you will provide management or stakeholders with a comprehensive review of the resource allocation with a clear bridge from accounting to economic performance and link a company’s market valuation with financial performance.

This course builds on the fundamental notions of corporate finance and financial derivatives markets to answer what a corporate financial manager, e.g., the Treasurer, the CFO, or the CEO, must do to properly manage the firm’s common risks and increase shareholder value. You will learn about the main types of risks that companies may face, how to measure and treat common corporate risks in order to optimise the firm value, as part of the company’s strategic plan and its application. You will also learn how to use some unusual risk management techniques from practice.

Drawing on the expertise developed at the EDHEC-Risk Institute, this course equips students with both the technical and conceptual tools that will allow them to take an active role in this fast-evolving environment. In particular, it provides a detailed introduction to the modern approach to portfolio management that advocates a clear separation between the management of normal returns (a.k.a. betas) emanating from exposure to rewarded sources of risk and the management of abnormal returns (a.k.a. alphas) emanating from active managers’ unique expertise to generate an excess return above and beyond the risks taken. More specifically, the course focuses on the technical challenges involved in portfolio optimization with specific emphasis on the need for enhanced estimates of risk and expected returns. We present state-of-the-art techniques for optimal beta management. Short application cases and excel-based illustrations are systematically used throughout the course to help students synthesize concepts and master techniques. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to Implement alternative portfolio models integrating non-normality risks, parameter uncertainty, and realistic risk preferences, as well as making covariance matrix estimation manageable and improve parameter estimates when performing an asset allocation.

The course is designed to expose the core empirical methods used in risk management, pricing, and portfolio construction, with a strong emphasis on practical implementation and Python applications. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the manipulation of financial data, volatility modeling, market risk measures, portfolio construction models, and numerical simulations. Upon completion of the course, you should be able to analyze empirical data observed in financial markets, interpret the output of quantitative analysis, and apply the various quantitative tools exposed in various contexts (pricing, portfolio construction, risk analysis).

This course will provide you with the basic concepts of Fixed Income Derivatives trading and pricing. At the end of the course, you will know how a bond market and a derivatives exchange works; what are the main differences between an exchange and the OTC; what are derivatives useful for; how to speculate, hedge, or arbitrage in derivatives markets; how a market maker manages a book. Fixed income derivatives markets are the largest. One should be able to move from fixed income instruments to derivatives on these instruments. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to extract information from market prices (term structure of interest rate,…).

This course is designed to teach students how to use the advanced facilities offered by VBA in Excel for finance and to solve common financial problems. It is aimed at spreadsheet users who need to design, build and disseminate professional financial models within organizations. The course shows how to use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) language to create more powerful spreadsheets and to build custom functions. Upon completion of the course, you should be able to implement financial models in VBA and automate tasks with macros.

You will learn the basic concepts of academic research and will be able to apply these concepts in the research and composition necessary for their Applied Master Projects (AMPs).

This course addresses the ethical challenges in finance, which include financial markets, financial services, and financial management. The main objective is to make students aware of the relevance of ethical norms for professionals in finance. Many of the ethical norms in finance are embodied in law and government regulation and are enforced by the courts and regulatory bodies. Ethics plays a vital role, however by guiding the formation of law and regulation and, second, by guiding conduct in areas not governed or controlled by law and regulation.

Our MSc students have the opportunity to apply for a study tour in London or Singapore. The objective is to immerse them into a real professional and cultural environment in order to get acquainted with specific industry practices.

This certificate programme is open to students enrolled into the research thesis where they will be supervised in a challenging research undertake. The aim of this course is to support students in conducting rigorous and original empirical research in finance. You will gain the ability to identify research questions that are relevant for the business and public policy, demonstrate a deep understanding of the frontiers of knowledge in a very narrow area, design and implement a sound research project and write a research report and make a presentation of the results that follow the standards of research in the field.

You will gain practical and theoretical project management fundamentals. You will learn to master project management tools such as Project Charter, Project plan, Stakeholder analysis, Schedule… The certificate is based on “best practices” collected from worldwide professionals and documented by Project Management Institute (PMI®) through the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®), a worldwide Project Management Standard. This certification is recognised by the French government.

Should you have any concerns about your visa application, you can contact the ISO, provided you have already checked the relevant pages in the Welcome Guide and contacted your local Embassy. One requirement for most visa applications is proof of accommodation in France. Again, the ISO is on hand to provide you with a list of apartments, halls of residence and other types of housing, depending on your criteria. You can even "visit" them virtually on our new housing website. The team will do everything it can to make arrangements with the property owner and secure your booking. It can also pick you up from the airport on the day of your arrival (where possible) and take you directly to your new home.
