5 TIPS TO STAND OUT AT JOB FAIRS

Business schools host job fairs for their students. Here are a few short pieces of advice to stand out.

Written on 17 Oct 2019.

Tip number 1: Come prepared

Before going to a fair, find out which are the different companies present. If one or several companies catch your attention, check if they have internship or job openings that match your goals. If they do, tell the recruiter what position you are interested in while introducing yourself. You might get an informal interview right on the spot, or at least, get the recruiter to get a closer look at your profile in detail later on and be called back. This tactic will also help you maximise your time at the fair.

Tip number 2: Show interest

Show the recruiter that you know the company and that you did some extensive research before coming.

Tip number 3: Be concise

Never take up too much of the recruiter's time. There are many candidates on job fairs. If you want to stand out, simply explain who you are, what you are looking for and why you are interested in the company. Differentiate yourself and avoid the “I’m a student in… at…”. Brand yourself. But remain concise and direct.

Tip number 4: Be friendly

Never forget to smile! Fair days are intense for recruiters. They always appreciate meeting with someone who is smiling and has a positive attitude!

Tip number 5: Look your best

Dress as if it was your first day on the job!
