EDHEC Business School now started accepting applications for its Globalising Europe summer course on the French Riviera. The three-week intensive course is an opportunity to learn about the workings and economics of the European Union (EU) while discovering the stunning South of France.

The summer course, which will run from 17 June to 5 July 2019 on EDHEC’s campus in Nice, will examine topics of particular interest to business and economics students unfamiliar with European institutions and nations. It will focus on the specific problems of building the Union as enterprises simultaneously globalise outside the bloc.

Alongside workshops, tours and excursions to local businesses, three focus courses will familiarise participants with European business, the region’s economic challenges and the larger political and cultural framework surrounding the EU.

The first will give students insights into the complexities of the European environment from a business, corporate-governance, economic and financial perspective. Naturally, recent challenges in the European economic and business landscape will be covered, including the immigration crisis, Brexit, the euro crisis and the regional independence movement.

The second will explore European cultural diversity in terms of the social factors that impact economies and determine consumption and behaviour, in an interdisciplinary course that draws from economic history, sociology, political science and cultural studies.

The third will provide an introduction into the political system of the EU, its different institutions and decision-making processes. The course will consist of interactive lectures and role playing, with students simulating a negotiation in the European Council.

While all the courses are delivered in English, there will be plenty of opportunities for immersion in the French language and to experience the country, not as a tourist, but as an informed participant.
