Bristol Myers Squibb and EDHEC Business School are delighted to announce the signing of a long-term partnership aimed at helping to accelerate innovation in the field of e-health. The highlight of the collaboration, the creation of a joint Management in Innovative Health research chair, will allow the two organizations to marshal their knowledge and expertise to better understand the consequences of the digital revolution on the health ecosystem and to advance e-health for the benefit of patients.

CONNECTED HEALTH FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

Already active in the field of health education and research, EDHEC has chosen to scale up and step up its commitment to connected health by partnering with Bristol Myers Squibb, one of the largest biopharmaceutical companies globally.

Since its inception, Bristol Myers Squibb has been at the forefront of scientific and therapeutic advances, primarily in serious diseases such as cancer, and is committed to a holistic approach focused on patient care. The company shares its innovative strength with its ecosystem of stakeholders to increase its impact and access the best expertise. "Our partnership with EDHEC will enable us, through unprecedented research, to contribute to a better understanding of the uses of connected health and to propose innovative solutions with a view to greater efficiency of the healthcare system for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals," said Christophe Durand, General Manager of Bristol Myers Squibb.

This three-year collaboration, renewable annually, underscores EDHEC's desire to put its high-value-added academic resources to work in solving strategic issues for future generations, in line with the priorities of its 2025 plan. It is further another example of its "Research for Business and Society" approach, which promotes collaboration between scientific research and industry.

"At a time when health is a global priority and in the face of a technical revolution, we have created a Management in Innovative Health research chair in partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb, a global leader in medical research,” said Emmanuel Métais, Dean of EDHEC Business School. “Opening up and hybridising knowledge enables us to augment the impact of research. Thus, by taking a multidisciplinary approach that combines tech, health and management, we aim to put the health revolution to work for future generations."

INNOVATION THAT CREATES VALUE FOR PATIENTS

The creation of the Management in Innovative Health research chair makes this aim a reality. Built on three pillars – research, teaching and communication – it will capitalise on the synergies between EDHEC's educator-researchers and Bristol Myers Squibb's ecosystem of experts and patient communities to advance knowledge and practices with regard to the impact of digital technology on the healthcare offering, the emergence of e-health and the use of connected health tools.

As a first step in their cooperation, in autumn 2022, Ipsos will publish a biannual EDHEC-Bristol Myers Squibb barometer of patients’ adoption of connected health tools, which will give healthcare stakeholders unprecedented data on the behavioural developments of the French public with regard to digital health solutions, with a particular focus on the use of AI and data.

HEALTHCARE TRAINING – A PRIORITY ISSUE

Student training and the development of skills in the field of health management will be a key component of the collaboration. With the support and expertise of teams at Bristol Myers Squibb, from the next academic year, EDHEC will offer a series of taught modules dedicated to health topics in its Executive Education programmes, then its initial training more broadly.

Students will be offered courses, “consulting projects” and business cases derived from issues specific to the sector. For example, Global MBA students will be invited to develop marketing strategies in the field of health or to propose innovative approaches to developing patient value in healthcare. Meanwhile, certain initial training EDHEC students will participate in an immersive challenge, entitled #ExploreForCancer, conceived by Bristol Myers Squibb to demonstrate the progress already made as a result of immunotherapy and to support French public research in the field of cancer.
